The Armory Awarded $150K for New Art + Science Program

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded $150,000 to Armory Center for the Arts to develop, deliver, and evaluate Artful Connections with Science — a new visual arts/science integrated curriculum for fourth and fifth graders in Pasadena and LA Unified School Districts. Artful Connections with Science will provide support to the education community at a critical juncture as California adopts the Next Generation Science Standards.

Armory Center for the Arts receives NEA grant for Big City Forum Residency

*Armory Center for the Arts receives a $45,000 grant from National Endowment for the Arts for City of Hope, City of Resistance: Research and Actions in Los Angeles, a 15-month residency with Big City Forum* Armory Center for the Arts is pleased to announce it has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host and present the outcomes of a 15-month, multidisciplinary residency with Big City Forum, entitled City of Hope, City of Resistance: Research and Actions in Los Angeles. The residency, from January 2014– March 2015, will include programs by Los Angeles-based architects, artists, designers, and urban planners, and will serve as a period of incubation for Big City Forum as it develops plans to launch future programmatic platforms.

Armory awarded $22,500 to Teach Art To Juvenile Offenders and Dropouts In Boyle Heights

The Armory has received $22,500 to provide arts programs benefiting at-risk youth, through the California Arts Council's pilot competitive grant program, Juveniles Utilizing Massive Potential Starting with Arts (JUMP StArts). The Armory’s free arts programming at Learning Works @ Homeboy Industries in East LA, begun in 2011, deepens the ongoing collaborative partnership between the Armory, Learning Works, and Homeboy Industries.

Armory Receives $140K Grant from Getty

*Armory Center for the Arts Receives $140,000 Research Grant from the Getty Foundation* Armory Center for the Arts has been awarded $140,000 to research social spaces created through alternative art practices in Mexico City and Guadalajara in the 1990s. The research award comes from the Getty Foundation and is part of the Getty’s second iteration of its Pacific Standard Time initiative, entitled LA/LA, which will result in a series of exhibitions of Latin American and Latino art at institutions across Southern California.
