Richard Jackson to crash plane filled with paint into wall; arftermath to be exhibited at Armory

December 19, 2011 — Armory Center for the Arts is pleased to announce a two-part program by Richard Jackson consisting first of a public spectacle entitled Accidents in Abstract Painting followed by a subsequent exhibition entitled Accidents in Abstract Painting, the Armory. In the outdoor spectacle entitled Accidents in Abstract Painting Richard Jackson will fly and crash a radio-controlled, model military plane with a fifteen-foot wingspan, filled with paint, into a twenty-foot wall that reads “accidents in abstract painting.

Sympathetic Magic: Video Myths and Rituals, a group exhibition of time based work organized by curator Catherine Taft opens at the Armory Center for the Arts’ main Caldwell Gallery on Saturday, January 22, 2011, 7 - 9pm. This group exhibition dealing with themes relating to myth and ritual, will feature works from 1974 through the present by video artists Neil Beloufa, Nancy Buchanan, Spencer Douglass and Gustavo Herrera, Naotaka Hiro, Ulysses Jenkins, Aaron GM, Cynthia Maughan, Nikhil Murthy, Catherine Ross, Marnie Weber, and Bruce and Norman Yonemoto with Mike Kelley.

Installations Inside/Out 20th Anniversary Exhibition

This September, the Armory Center for the Arts launches its 20th Anniversary year with the exhibition Installations Inside/Out, curated by Jay Belloli and Sinéad Finnerty-Pyne. Paying tribute to its 20 years of exhibition history, the Armory commissioned 20 contemporary artists, all having previously created art for the organization, to make new site-specific works and installations both inside the Armory and at sites throughout Pasadena.
