(Sp18.331) Egg Tempera Workshop

(Ages 18+) Egg Tempera is a classic form of paint, composed of water, pigment, and egg yolk. This simple chemistry was adopted widely by Eastern European icon painters of the 1st millennium and Western European artists in the 2nd millennium. During the Renaissance, egg tempera was largely replaced by oil painting. Nowadays, with an increasing appreciation for multi-media, DIY practices, and sustainable materials, egg tempera has resurged because of its particular handling and optical properties. Students will learn all of the proper techniques to begin painting with eggs in a durable, traditional manner. Each student will work on a 5" x 7" prepared panel. You are encouraged to bring in 5" x 7" drawings or photographs to transfer to the painting surface.
