World will host a reception for Maria Teresa on May 8, 6-7 p.m.
(before the screening of the documentary) Exhibition of color photographs
of the fence at the United States and Mexico border, produced by
Mexican photographer Maria Theresa Fernandez. This exhibition is
in conjunction with a film screening of Crossing Arizona, presented
by Conscientious Projector. On view in the Pasadena Art Alliance

International Day for Sharing Life Stories
At the Armory, 145 N.

Friday, May 16, 3 – 9 p.m.
The
Armory joins with the Center for Digital Storytelling (CDS) and
The Museum of the Person International Network (Brazil, Portugal,
USA and Canada) for an international celebration of life stories.
We call on people to gather in community halls, classrooms, public
parks, theaters, and auditoriums on this day to share their stories.
At the Armory, we will feature digital stories created in on-site
workshops, including artist/author Riua Akinshegun and documentary
filmmaker Kathy Huang's Miss Chinatown, USA; CDS Los Angeles presents
an evening of story performance, digital storytelling screenings,
narrative documentary and story swapping. For information, contact

14 – September 30 Preview party, Saturday, June 7, 2–4
p.m.
This project, which is presented as banners with students
from Northwest Pasadena, deals with issues of identity and community
and will include the work of students from Washington Middle
School, Muir High School, and the Madison Neighborhood Community
Casita. These students will be learning digital photography and
Photoshop in a classroom setting over a 10-week period and will
then create self-portraits as a final project. These portraits
will then be curated by Armory staff and the winning images will
be printed on banners that will be displayed on light poles in
Pasadena. The preview party will take place at the Armory.

August 2 – November
8, 2008 The third large-scale installation for Armory Public
View, a series dedicated to the commissioning and presentation
of site-specific artworks that challenge conventional notions
about art in urban spaces. This program continues with an installation
by Yoko Ono, who is known for her work as an avant-garde artist,
including temporary outdoor art.

Pasadena Film Festival
Fridays & Saturdays,
July 11 – 26, 7–10 p.m.
A district-wide film festival
happening on rooftops, in basements, on walls, in courtyards,
in shops and in theaters in Old Pasadena. All screenings are
free and open to the public. Presented in partnership with American
Cinematheque, the festival presents a wide variety of genres
that reflect the outdoor urban setting of Old Pasadena alleys,
courtyards and buildings. Genres include emerging student work
presented at the Armory, classics in the One Colorado Courtyard,
animé, travel, French New Wave, science fiction and more.
