For Classroom Teachers

Pasadena Unified School District

Artist/Teacher Collaborative is a Department of Education supported training program offered to 32 third, fourth, and fifth grade classroom teachers annually to work in collaboration with a professional teaching artist to learn how to integrate the Open Court English Language Curriculum with the current SRA Visual Arts Connections curriculum. Participants attend a two-day training session followed by twelve weeks of professional development in the classroom with an Armory master teaching artist. Training sessions begin in October and continue through June.

VAPA Coaching is an opportunity for every Kindergarten–sixth grade teacher to receive 2 hours of professional development and coaching in the Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards and the implementation of the newly adopted SRA Visual Arts Connections curriculum from an Armory master teaching artist directly in the classroom with their students. Artists provide an opportunity for classroom teachers to learn from modeling, team-teaching, and an observational approach. The artist also serves as a technical consultant to each classroom teacher.

Los Angeles Unified School District

Artscapes is an eight-week schools-based program offered in collaboration with the LAUSD’s Arts Branch and the Armory’s Schools department. Pre-planning sessions are offered for each participating classroom teacher. Two-hour training sessions are also offered to the entire faculty at each school site. These training sessions are focused on standards based art education methods and techniques.

Teacher Training Workshops are two-hour professional development sessions for schools requesting supplemental technical training in visual art. Schools may choose from seven different workshops ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture, bookmaking, printmaking, collage, or clay techniques for the classroom. Workshops generally happen during a Professional Development Tuesday from 1 – 3 p.m. LAUSD principals may contact the Arts Branch to request a workshop and contact the Armory directly to reserve a date.
