The
September 11 Photo Project
June 30, 2002 August 4, 2002
Opening Reception Saturday, June 29, 6 8:30 p.m.
The
September 11 Photo Project is a grass-roots initiative founded in
response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The
project began in New York City in the days following the attacks.
"The design of the project is not simply a photography or art
show, but an exhibit to communicate people's stories and experience,"
explains Michael Feldschuh, a Wall Street executive and founder
of the project. The project is also designed to provide an open
forum, displaying without exception, the photos and thoughts of
community members in reaction to the tragedy.
Composed
of more than 3,500 photographs taken before, during and after the
events of September 11, the collection includes photographs and
commentary by professional and amateur photographers from around
the world. Photographs will be hung randomly, and visitors may contribute
new photos through the duration of the show.
Opened
in a SoHo storefront on October 13, 2001, with about 200 submissions,
this exhibition is traveling throughout the nation. A book of selected
photographs is available.
