In Katrina’s Wake: Portraits of Loss from a Natural
Disaster
June 24 – September 2
Opening
reception, Saturday, June 23, 7-9 p.m.
In this powerful project, Seattle-based photographer Chris Jordan portrays the
devastation of Hurricane Katrina on a personal scale, framing poignantly desolate
details in the ruined landscape. Jordan’s work focuses on the darkly compelling
detritus of American consumer society. A book accompanies the exhibition, including
reproductions of Jordan’s photographs, with essays by Bill McKibben and
Susan Zakin. Jordan has pledged to donate 100% of the proceeds from this nonprofit
book to Gulf Coast hurricane relief charities and institutions that conduct global
warming research and advocacy. On view in the Mezzanine Gallery.
