Opening reception, Friday, October 12, 6–10 p.m.
Exploring
the outward terminus of the body, this exhibit explores our dermal area as façade,
advertisement, reliquary and living canvas. Artists and other creative workers
of note explore the fetishes and commodification of skin through installation,
imagery, and performances. Included in the exhibition are Deidre De Franceaux,
Thadeus Frazier-Reed, Sara Hunsucker, Margo Jim, Kris Kessey, Ted Meyer, John
O'Brien & Maria Cielo Pessione, Benjamin Page, Laurel Paley, Karen Reitzel,
and Los Animistas (Tammy Singer, Dr. Carlos Arredondo Antunez and Alberto del
Rey). There will be a special opening night performance by Infranatural (Jenna
Didier, Oliver Hess and Marcos Lutyens) at 8 p.m. This exhibition is part of
Skin: Art & Ideas 2007, a festival of the arts, sciences, and humanities
in Pasadena and surrounding communities.
