An exhibition of photographs by Kireilyn Barber
At the Armory, 145 N. Raymond Ave., Old Pasadena
March 31 – May 28
Opening reception, Thursday, March 30, 5–7 p.m.
Photographer Kireilyn Barber offers up a series of color photographs
presented as triptychs, investigating “macro” to “micro”
views of a typology specific to the City of Pasadena: independently-run
motels located along Colorado Boulevard. At its core, this project
looks at the growing corporatization of society and the increasing
scarcity of independent businesses. These motel sites represent
some of the last remaining constructions not branded or dictated
by corporate logo identification. The intent of the macro (external)
views combined with the micro (interior) views is to delve deeper
into the psychology of human presence, impact and absence.
