the Nursery

The
inaugural exhibition at the Armory's newest location for Armory
Northwest, the temporary and movable annex community location, currently
located at the former Hortus Nursery. This exhibtion features various
site-specific installations that use this beautiful garden-like
setting as a starting point. Tree branches and found materials twisted
and bound together to form a DNA helix; fiberglass body forms suspended
in a greenhouse; a large-scale mobile made from Gatorboard, paint
and fishing wire to create a floating landscape. These are only
a few of the installations that are on view.
In the Nursery features many installations that relate to the site
itself, a former nursery filled with trees, plantings, bricked pathways,
and secret gardens.The exhibition includes both outdoor and indoor
installations throughout the one acre site. Art work is installed
in ponds, suspended from arbors and occupy unique interior spaces
such as a vine-covered greenhouse. Featured artists are Kireilyn
Barber, Elaine Bradford, Hadiya Finley, Matthew Furmanski, Kim Hager,
Arianne Hoffman, Emily Hopkins, Stan Hunter, Susan Kanga, Barbara
Koziel-Gawronski, Nancy Kyes, Melissa J. Manfull, Jim Piatt, Tyler
Rowland, Denise K. Seider, Meriel Stern, Ruth Szold Stern, Wojciech
Voychek Szaszor, Mercedes Teixido, Pat Warner, and a collaborative
performance group including Anabelle Aylmer, William Franco, Don
McLeod and Miki Seifert.
