The
Story is in the Telling

Opening Reception Saturday, July 6, 7 9 p.m.

It's
not the story so much as how you tell it. Artists working in the
narrative or storytelling tradition have for centuries used representation
to illustrate what spoken and written words also convey. These
artists' observations and creations help us interpret our culture,
give us individual points of view and provide political commentary.
Through imagery, contemporary California artists are updating
and energizing the narrative tradition in art. The subject may
be alienation, relationships, social injustice or self-knowledge;
the medium may be painting, sculpture, photography or film. Artists
included in this exhibition are Sandow Birk, Dennis Callwood,
Ann Chamberlin, Margaret Garcia, Tony Gleaton, Farzad Karimi,
Alison Saar, Ben Sakoguchi, and John Valadez.
