Summer 2008 Schedule

The cost of each class is $85. Cost for members is $76, unless otherwise noted. Materials are included. Tuition assistance is available.

8:30 – 10 a.m.
Su8.140 Underwater & Over Land
Students will explore environments that are usually out of our reach. From the deep blue sea to the galaxies far, far away students will sculpt, paint and create many lands and places.

Su8.141 Aviary Adventures
From penguins to emus students will explore the world of birds. Students will use many materials to make art about birds and the different places where they live.
Age 5-6 / Quinton Bemiller

Su8.142 Fun with Drama
Students will explore theatrical expression through games, movement and improvisation. Using movement, feelings and voice, they’ll develop characters and learn to express themselves in a theatrical way.
Ages 7-9 / Grace Lacques

Su8.143 Printmaking & Silk-screening
Students will learn about transferring pictures using printmaking and silk-screening. They’ll learn quick and easy ways to print on paper, t-shirts, posters and other surfaces.

10:30 a.m. – noon
Su8.144 Enchanted Forest
Students will create magical lands with castles in the sky, enchanted forests and underwater worlds. Using a variety of materials, they’ll make unusual flowers, trees, fairies and monsters who live there.

Su8.145 Superheroes
Students will look at their favorite superheroes and make up their own, with costumes and imaginary lands where their heroes live.

Su8.146 Pirate Pranksters
Students will enter the adventurous world of pirates where they will hoist flags, search for buried treasure and create maps for distant lands. With clay, paint and found materials, they’ll use their imagination to explore exciting projects.

Su8.147 Blueprints, Buildings & Bridges
Students will learn the basics of how common things we see in our environment are constructed. Beginning with pencil “blueprints,” students will design and construct a small-scale version of their own structure.

Su8.148 Ceramics
Students will learn basic ceramic skills and techniques, including throwing on the wheel, hand building and glazing of functional and sculptural pieces.
Ages 9-11 / Sara Bayles

Su8.149 Aquariums
Using various materials, shapes, colors and textures, students will look into the water and create underwater landscapes unlike anything ever found in an aquarium.

Su8.150 The Night Sky
Students will look at things that are found in the night sky, like planets, stars, the moon, fireworks and maybe spaceships. Using an array of materials, they’ll create paintings and sculptures of things seen in the sky.

Su8.151 Mysteries & Mazes
Students will make mysterious artwork with secrets to unlock and challenges to solve. They’ll use paint, clay and other materials to create art that will keep you guessing.

Su8.152 Ceramics: Inside & Out
We will explore the difference between inside and outside by using clay hand building techniques such as coiling, pinching and slab building to make geode bowls, architectural teapots and vegetable mugs.
Ages 7-9 / Elonda Billera

Su8.153 Paper Sculpture
Students will explore many possible forms to be made with paper. Using sheets and strips to create surprising 3-D and flat sculptures, they’ll weave, make collages, build origami and use papier-mâché.
Ages 9-11 / Naomi Buckley

2:30 – 4 p.m.
Su8.154 Storybook Lands
Students will read many stories and even make up some stories of our own. Then we’ll make paintings and collages with clay, fabric, buttons and more, creating art about the characters and places in our stories.
Ages 3-4 / Patricia Liverman

Su8.155 Art In A Box
Students will start with boxes and turn them into art that tells stories in a miniature stage like setting. They’ll explore 2-D and 3-D materials as well as recycled and found objects.
Ages 5-6 / Sandra Gallegos

Su8.156 Recycled Art
Students will use both natural and recycled materials to make drawings, paintings and sculpture. They'll make a large collaborative installation as a group which will combine all the students artwork together. Go Green!
Ages 6-8 / Nicola Vruwink

Su8.157 Photo Magic
Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of photography through making Rayograms and pinhole cameras. Using both science and imagination, students will discover how photography is an extension of ourselves.
Ages 7-9 / Carly Steward

Su8.158 Stop Motion Animation
Students will be introduced to basic animation concepts, using techniques of stop motion animation. They’ll animate objects, sand, clay and their own bodies to produce a stop motion video.
Ages 9-11 / Michael Markowsky
