What Does It Mean To Be A Woman And To Experience Skid Row?
We wanted to take a deeper look. So we’ve invited women of all ages from Skid Row into a free, yearlong expressive arts workshop facilitated by Registered Drama Therapist Mimi Savage. We’ve opened a space for the women to search for their own voices, without imposing a prewritten script or theme.
In “Game Girls: Rock Paper Scissors” we invite you to witness a little of what we’ve heard and seen throughout the fist half of the process.
“Rock, Paper, Scissors” is a work-in-progress based on writing generated in the Game Girls workshops and inspired by Sylvia Plath’s Poem “Mirror” and Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem “Dove that Ventured Outside.”
The women explore themes of desire, recovery and the fluidity of identity and transform them into a tapestry of dreams. As they dialogue with handmade masks, they allow the audience a very intimate glimpse into their inner lives: their past, present and future.
It is up to you now to listen.
“Rock Paper Scissors” is directed by President of the SoCal chapter of the Drama Therapy Association, Mimi Savage, PHD Cand.,RDT. It has been developed alongside a documentary, currently in production, titled GAME GIRLS, directed by Alina Skrzeszewska. GAME GIRLS is produced by Films de Force Majeure, Blinker Films, Kelly Parker and Martin Marquet.
