Our Living Personas

This Community Room exhibition showcases masks created by adult students from New Opportunities Charter School — a school for LA County inmates who do not have a high school diploma or GED.

The result of two art workshops, these masks examine the culture and emotions of incarcerated adults. The mask's outside represents how they think others see them, the inside represents how the student views themselves.

New Opportunities Charter School works in partnership with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department under the umbrella of Education Based Incarceration — a component of the criminal justice system focused on deterring and mitigating crime through education and rehabilitation.

All masks are for sale with proceeds to benefit paid youth internships at the Armory.

The Armory's Community Room Gallery is open Tuesdays through Sundays, noon to 5pm.
