Your safety and well being is our top priority. In light of recent recommendations from health experts and elected officials, Armory Center for the Arts will cancel our annual spring benefit scheduled for April 4.
This was an extremely difficult decision and was not made lightly. After consulting with our board's executive committee and weighing science-based recommendations from health professionals and city officials, canceling the spring benefit is the responsible thing to do.
Our annual benefit historically attracts upwards of 400 guests. The sheer volume of attendees—many of whom are over 60—coupled with food and beverage service makes health official's recommendation for responsible social distancing at public events virtually impossible.
Slowing the spread of this virus will give our healthcare system a fighting chance to care for the most vulnerable among us. This will delay infection. Delaying infections will decrease the number of illnesses at any given time. This will give our healthcare system the capacity to significantly manage and reduce severe complications for high-risk populations. This requires full community cooperation.
In lieu of an actual party, we are planning a virtual experience to capture the spirit of an actual Armory gala in the coming weeks.
Thank you, be well, and stay strong. We will all get through this together as a community.
