Celebrated, cutting edge new music ensemble, The Eclipse Quartet will perform a concert of contemporary works for string quartet at The Armory Center for the Arts on Tuesday, January 25 at 8:00PM. Three recent compositions by Meredith Monk, Lois Vierk and Stephen Cohn represent manifestations of different directions which have grown from the second generation of the minimalist movement. As an historical touchstone which influenced many of the ideas represented, John Cage’s String Quartet is included.
The program includes a World Premiere by Los Angeles, Emmy winning composer, Stephen Cohn.

The Eclipse Quartet, (www.eclipsequartet.com) is a new music ensemble dedicated to the music of twentieth century and present day composers. The quartet also creates works of their own often in collaboration with other media. This quartet is made up of four women with strong backgrounds in international and national chamber music performance, new music and recording. Their combined experience represents a wide range of musical styles and collaborations. The Quartet has performed frequently on both coasts and has taken part in festivals like the festival of New American Music in Sacramento and the Look and Listen Festival, NYC. They currently have a residency at Mills College. Members are: Sarah Thornblade, Sara Parkins, Alma Lisa Fernandez and Maggie Parkins.

Stephen Cohn, (www.stephencohn.com) is internationally recognized for his music for the concert stage; scores for feature films, and television. His concert works have been performed and recorded by the world's finest chamber music ensembles in the United States and Europe, such as the Kansas City Symphony, Arditti Quartet, the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chroma String Quartet. He has been Composer-in-Residence at The International Encounters of Catalonia in the south of France and has been commissioned to compose new works which have been performed in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Brussels, France, and Prague. His classical and commercial recordings have been released by Warner Bros., Motown, A&M Records, Columbia Records, Albany Records and At Peace Media. He has received an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Music", and his scores have been part of many award winning productions which featured such stars as Lily Tomlin, Joanne Woodward, Kathleen Quinlan, Colleen Dewhurst, William Shatner, and Wallace Shawn. He has received the Parents’ Choice Gold Award for his 2003 CD release, “Two Together, An American Folk Music Suite”.
