It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news that ArtSlant co-founder, CEO, and Editor-in-Chief Georgia Fee passed away on Saturday evening, December 8th, in Los Angeles. Her last few days were spent with friends and family, and she was at peace.
Georgia Fee was born in 1951 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and received her MFA from California State University, Los Angeles in 1997. She was involved with numerous arts organizations including LA Freewaves Media Festival and Foundation for Art Research, Los Angeles. Georgia and her partner Catherine Ruggles made their home in Los Angeles, New York, and in her favorite city of all: Paris.
Georgia made significant contributions to the Armory’s mission of building upon the power of art to transform lives and communities. She began her tenure at the Armory as a teaching artist fellow in 1997. From 1998-2004, Georgia taught several arts-based programs for the Armory throughout Pasadena. She also coordinated our Schools Programs and organized a highly-successful art career day for high school students. She was a stellar teaching-artist and served as a mentor to emerging artists new to the field of arts education. She will be profoundly missed by her friends at the Armory.
There will be a memorial for Georgia on Saturday, January 12th at 11:00am at The Victorian, located at 2640 Main Street in Santa Monica. Letters of condolence and support are welcome at email@example.com.
