About the Artist
Austyn de Lugo-Liston is a Los Angeles-based artist. He received his BFA in oil painting from the American Academy of Art in Chicago and his MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Austyn was the Summer Artist in Residence at the Fundacíon Sebastian in Mexico City and a Teaching Artist Fellow at the Armory Center for the Arts. Austyn is an Armory faculty member and currently serves as our Education Coordinator.
Austyn is interested in queer and feminist theory, horror films, pattern and decoration, and political portraiture. He works with a variety of media, including collage, textiles, painting, and drawing. His works embrace the iconic, the tawdry, the vapid, and the flamboyant, as he investigates diva worship, propaganda, and the use of images in art history and our social and political institutions.
Made possible in part by an individual artist grant from the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division
