Color: Color Scales, Mixing, Color Theory & More
This is a class fully dedicated to studying color! We will create color and value scales as well as learn about mixing colors using acrylic paint, watercolor, and colored pencil. All projects will center around understanding color and its many intricacies, including the role it can play in your own artwork. Short readings from Interaction of Color by Josef Albers and The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Claire will be included in our studies. We will look at many different artists for inspiration. David Hockney, Claude Monet, Beverly Fishman, and Bridget Riley, to name a few. We will additionally take a tour of the work of artist Alison Saar, whose exhibition Of Aether and Earthe is currently on view at the Armory, and draw inspiration from her art as we create our own unique pieces.
Material list provided on the first day of the session. Masks are required inside the Armory for all students and visitors. With few exceptions, students age 12 and up must show proof of full vaccination on the first day of class. Please read our onsite class safety protocols here.
