Register for Winter Art Classes
No one else can tell the story you have to tell. In ten weeks, we will aim to write a short story (or at least get one started) that reflects your unique perspective and interests. I break down storytelling into four basic elements which we focus on for two weeks at a time: 1. Character and setting. 2. Want or motivation 3. Actions and consequences. 4. Finding the right ending. We spend the last two weeks revising and reading finished pieces.
Each class will open with a brief discussion of one of the elements before moving into writing prompts and exercises. Students always have the option to read aloud and hear how their words are understood by the group. Reading your work is never mandatory but the more we do it, the more confident our writing becomes.
Students are welcome to bring projects they have already started or come with a blank slate. Materials: Bring whatever you like to write with, but I will have pens and paper on hand.
Masks are required inside the Armory for all students and visitors. With few exceptions, students age 12 and up must show proof of full vaccination on the first day of class. Please read our onsite class safety protocols here.
