Printmaking Processes 101

Printmaking Processes 101

Ages 18+

All Printmaking involves the creation of a matrix (wood block, litho stone, etching plate, silkscreen, etc.), applying ink to that matrix, and then transferring that ink onto paper or fabric. Printmaking allows for the production of multiples and editions, creating the opportunity for both variation and repetition. This class will introduce several printmaking processes and techniques, including, but not limited to Relief (woodblock and linocut) , Intaglio (plexiglass etching), Risograph, Watercolor Monotype, and Screen Printing. The focus of this course is on a wide scope of fine art printmaking processes, but we will also explore commercial or graphic design applications of printmaking. The technical aspects of each technique will be investigated through demonstrations at the start of each class, optional readings, and supervised in-class work time. This course is designed to both introduce processes and explore personal work through in-class work time and independent projects. You will not be required to bring supplies to the first class meeting. Recommended supply lists will be reviewed and distributed in the first class meeting, although a lot of supplies will also be provided.

Masks are required inside the Armory for all students and visitors. All students age 5 and up must show proof of full vaccination on the first day of class. Please read our onsite class safety protocols here.
