In this workshop, we will create our own collages of moths, as we draw inspiration from both Saar's work, as well as from the natural world. We will experiment with the art of symmetry as we fold, cut, rip, glue, and more, to create our own unique moth-inspired collages.

Teens & Adults (Ages 12+)
8:30 - 9:30pm

Join us for a virtual workshop inspired by Alison Saar's sculpture Sea of Serenity. In this workshop, we will create our own drawings and collages of moths, as we draw inspiration from both Saar's work, as well as from the natural world. Experiment with incorporating patterns, layers, words, and even poetry through your moth-inspired collage creations.

Recommended materials: copy paper, pencils, eraser, magazines, colored paper, foil, wrapping paper, scissors, glue stick, base paper, newspaper.

At artWORKS Teen Center

Easel activities will include creating mini “oil pastel walls” and painting small scale canvases with teaching artist Heather Hilliard. In the studio, watch artist Sergio Hernandez’s screen printing demonstration and take a print home. Stay a while to enjoy all of the activities and participate in hourly raffles if beautiful student work from past aerosol classes. Enjoy an evening of indoor and outdoor performances, hands-on (and socially distanced) artmaking with Armory Teaching Artists, and discover the magic of the Gro Works Garden at our partner venue artWORKS Teen Center in East Pasadena.
