Harry Dodge Talk & Screening
Artist Harry Dodge will present work, research, and thoughts relating to his practice and solo show, The Inner Reality of Ultra-Intelligent Life, currently on view at the Armory. The exhibition, which runs until January 8th, considers machine intelligence and materiality, and features the premiere of two new video works, Mysterious Fires and Big Bang (Song of the Cosmic Hobo). These videos are paired with earlier drawings and sculptures, which present the evolution of the artist’s interests over the last decade.
The event at Pieter will begin with a screening of Dodge’s 2013 video, The Ass and The Lap Dog. This work explores issues of transposition, flawed translation and the eerie plenitude of psychic agency via a series of absurd and linguistically complex monologues by five performers. (trt 34:00mins.)

About the Artist
Harry Dodge is an American artist whose 20 years of interdisciplinary practice—spanning performance, video-making, sculpture, drawing, and writing—is characterized by its explorations of relation, materiality, and the unnamable, with a special focus on ecstatic contamination. His solo and collaborative work has been exhibited at many venues nationally and internationally, including the 2008 Whitney Biennial, a solo show entitled, Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in 2013 and the Hammer Museum’s 2014 biennial, Made in L.A. and 2015’s The Cybernetic Fold at Wallspace, New York. Recent group exhibitions include: Protuberances at LAXART, Los Angeles; The Promise of Total Automation at Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; a three-person show at London’s The Approach Gallery, Triples: Harry Dodge, Evan Holloway and Peter Shelton; and Routine Pleasures at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles. Dodge is currently working on a book-length essay entitled My Meteorite.
